Daniel Kite.
Dan took the above fish again in April 2006, this time weighing in at 32lb. An extract from a more recent diary reads as follows:
22nd - 23rd April 2006 Alders Farm,
Dan Kite Fishing Diary
Nathan and I produced 28 fish between us in 24hrs. In this total it included a 24lb 4oz Common Carp, 3 x 19lb plus Mirror carp, 1 x 18lb Mirror, 4 x 15lb plus mirrors and commons. The rest of the fish caught where between 2lb - 10lb. We fished on peg I and H. We used bottom baits fished on barbless size 8 using the safety clip lead system. We used Alders Farm pellet (GOT Baits) with Mainline Freezer bait range. |
Terry Nicloson - My First Visit to Alders Farm Fishery.
I recently decided to return to fishing having spent the past few years playing golf, but due to a bad back, I decided to give it a break for a while, I had fished Alders regularly 5 or 6 years ago, and when I heard that it was now under new ownership and it now had a specimen lake, I thought that it would be a great place to make my comeback to fishing.
I therefore booked a days holiday and decided to give it a try, as I knew very little about the new lake, I thought that a week day would be the best time to look around and try various fishing spots as there would be fewer people about, I turned up at 7-30 made my way down to the barrier where I was greeted by what I thought was the lady owner, and what I found very good was that without any questions from me she immediately told me about the lake and also pointed me in the direction of the most fished bay by the regulars which I was most grateful to her for. I went to the afore mentioned spot and preceded to set up and fish, within 45 minutes I had my first run of the day a screamer and when I struck into the fish I felt I had a good fish on my line, I had to play it for about ten minutes as every time I got it close it would run for the margins which it obviously new was safety, but eventually I managed to land it and was very pleased when I weighed it and found that it was 20lb 4oz my best in the past being around 15lb so you can guess my joy at the first fish of the day.
About 90 minutes later I had my second fish although the run was a real screamer the fish weighed in at 4lbs, normally a nice fish but after my first catch I realised that the claims from the website that the fish in this lake were very big was not just talk and I was getting greedy, and could not wait to see if I could find another one of that size.
I quickly returned the fish to the lake and made my next cast I had to wait about two hours for my next fish although I did lose a fish about an hour before as it ran off toward the margins and the hook came out, I tried very hard to keep this one away from the margins but again it made a run for safety, I had to play the fish for a good twenty minutes as the line got caught on a tree branch which made it very difficult to move the fish, eventually a man I had spoken to earlier had seen me struggling with the fish and came to see if he could help, he suggested wading in to remove the line from the tree as we could both see it was a nice fish and if the line snapped there was a chance the fish may be stuck there, so he offered to go and get some waders from the main house and proceeded to wade out and untangle the line for me, after another five minutes or so I managed to land the fish I could not believe how well it fought, and for how long, but then to my amazement the fish weighed in at 31lbs exactly I was over the moon as you can imagine

I again returned the fish to the lake and made another cast after 90 minutes or so I had another good run I managed to keep this one away from the bank and although I managed to land this after about ten minutes I was not surprised to find out it weighed in at 19lb 4oz, I had one more fish about half an hour later this again was a lovely specimen that topped the scales at 22lb 8oz, I stayed for another couple of hours without anymore excitement. But I could not complain as I had been given my fair share and more for one day and I believe it will not be long before I am back to try my luck again. This without a doubt is the most gratifying day of fishing I have ever had to almost double my personal best and break it with another 3 fish is something I will never forget…..
I would like to thank again the man who helped me by wading into the lake, I know he looks at the website as we had spoken about it, so if you read this thanks again……
