Open Match
With the GOT Baits / Maggot Drowners inter-site match not too far off, the hype continued in the build up to this Sunday's match at Alders Farm. With the weather on the up, the fish had been moving well but the wind was going to be a big problem; even fishing 9m was out of the question on some pegs.
Peg 40 was a pre-match favourite, with Trev Price catching well there in mid week. Other favourites included the likes of 38, 1 and 4. There was a big weight expected on any of these pegs. The cafe bank, in the shallows, had a good number of fish in pegs 27-38, that had been pushed there by a very strong wind, these too could have produced a belting weight. Additionaly, Peg 7 holds a few fish and when Gary Thorpe drew the lucky number he was always in with a chance if the favourite pegs failed to produce, and as LUCK would have it........Gary eventually put together 104lb for a match win with a very tidy result. Gary fished on the pellet at 4 and 6m with 4mm and 6mm soft hooker pellet over 4mm Cold Water Sinking pellet with a few 4mm expander fed to keep the fish interested. A fine result from the GOT Baits Captain.
Trevor Price (Match organizer) drew unfancied peg 12 and spent the most of the 5hrs trying not to get blown in to Milton Keynes Central! Holding the pole beyond 5m was not in question and consequently spend most of his day adjusting the rigs of those anglers around him! Nice Guy our Trevor.
All pegs today were on the Match Lake.
