Open Match
With it being a little milder all week everyone was looking forward to this weekend, but the weather curse stuck again on Saturday night; a growing trend for 2006! Once again, it was the frost that welcomed the anglers and consequently dropped the anglers spirits as low as the water temperature. However, the lakes produced plenty of bites for all anglers and at the end of the day a decent match was once again produced from Alders Farm.
Richard Brain (GOT Baits) took advantage of a good draw on the pump house to catch over 100 fish for 60lb and another fine win.
He didn't have it all his own way, a fine performance from match organizer and last weeks bridesmaid, Trevor Price (GOT Baits), on the long pole and short line with a pellet and paste approach push Brain all the way from an unfancied peg on the match lake catching. Trevor's final return fell just one bonus fish short of the match win with a fine 58lb 8oz.
Elsewhere, plenty of small fish keeping the floats going under on 4mm soft hookers or pinkie baits, with the weather warming up the carp have started to move around the lake and even in cold conditions the paste is worth a look. A good start to the year and things look set to get better and better.
