Alders Farm Winter League Final round

With Got Baits going into the final round of this year’s winter league with a commanding lead it seemed the only thing that could stop them was adverse weather and a bad draw.

On getting to the fishery everyone was greeted with frozen lakes whilst not everyone was happy, it opened up the potential of an upset. Gary Picasso Thorpe went to the draw bag and drew what they (Got Baits) considered to be a half reasonable draw taking into consideration the conditions, whilst their main rivals Turbertini had what can only be described as the worst possible team draw going so bad that the feeling in the got camp was it was all over due to turbertinis bad draw.

As the match unfolded the weather was having a dramatic effect on the fishing, and with the Got Baits lads not even having a bite between them it looked like an upset was on the cards, but again the weather played its part warming up enough to melt the ice, enough for Martin (The Milton Keynes Fairy) Tinkerbelle Green to reach the island with his waggler and was immediately rewarded with a hard fighting carp.

Up on the Silver Lake Nick D had caught a few as did Gary Page (Got Baits) whilst Matt Grant (Turbertini) on possibly the worst peg on the lake and Mick McMillan were both struggling and the league title looked like it was on its way to Got Baits.
Down on Ash Lake Gary Thorpe stunned everyone by dumping in two full pots of Atomic Cloud and rested it for half an hour, then went over the top on double red Atomic maggot and proceeded to smash the section out of site with 12 late carp.

It was apparent that Got Baits had done enough to regain the title for a third time whilst the dreadful draw that Turbertini had showed as they slumped to last place on the day with their worst result in the history of the league, it shows that no matter what had the draws been reversed then Turbrtini would have regained the title.

Round 5 of this years series had the pleasant change of mild weather and the expectation of decent catches.
Barry Mason again found himself on the island section and fished the straight bomb and bread for a fantastic winning weight of 157lb
Followed home by Got Baits Martin green who fished the Waggler with Atomic maggot for second Place .
Team wise Turbertini put in a fantastic display to win easily on the day ahead of Got baits Red

Barry Mason took first place in the 3rd round of the Winter league with an impressive 201lb 5oz from peg 5 just ahead of Got Baits Gary Thorpe who returned 181lb 11oz. 3rd went to Tony Wynock 151lb 6oz off of peg 4 where his post is now being delivered.

Got Baits Red put in a fantastic team performance considering their draw and took 1st place on the day just ahead of Turbertini.

Matt Grant “Turbertini captain” turned out for the match even though he only got back from his holiday at 06.00 leaving Luton airport to come straight to the match
now that’s commitment.

The second round of the winter league saw Got Baits extend their lead at the top of the league. Gary Thorpe drew peg 2 on the match lake and made no mistake with a massive 214lb

Second place Tony Wynock on the next peg 3 pushed him all the way with 198lb
Third was the ever green Martin Green with 138lb

The penultimate Round of the Hayward Tyler Match Series

The penultimate Round of the Hayward Tyler Match Seriestook us to Alders Farm – Silver Lake, and hopes were high of some big weights and a close match. The weather was foggy and quite warm at the first light but a cold westerly wind ensued throughout the day which made conditions difficult and led to the fish responding sporadically.

Peg 15 was the hot peg in the draw and when league leader, and venue expert, Andy Tebbutt drew it he could not hide his delight, however he struggled to get the bigger fish feeding consistently and finished just shy of 39lb. Those fishing pegs 16-20 were finding the fish at 11m range on corn and maggot with Andy Wiles and Jason Ruff both finishing in the top 5 with weights of 64lb and 58lb respectively.

Steve Carter drew the deeper end of the lake and did’t fancy his chances before the whistle; however the smaller carp showed in numbers and he finished 3rd with a decent weight just shy of 71lb fishing at 13m. The main attention however was on the shallow end of the lake where the fish have been holding up in the recent warmer weather.

Chris Wynne and Matt Welham both caught in busy periods throughout the day at 7m on maggot but quiet spells, and the loss of a few lumps, cost their chances of catching the top two. On the final whistle the focus was on pegs 11 and 13 where both anglers had been catching steady for the 5 hours.

In 2nd place was Warren Owen from Peg 13, fishing at 13m he managed 86lb of big carp and some very good Tench, but overall winner was Paul Kyle who caught from the off at 5m range on maggot and pellet to finish with 126lb 10oz.

Sunday saw the first round of Got Baits Alders farm Winter league with the league entering its 5th year everyone was looking forward to another exciting campaign.
Last years champions winners Turbertini were looking forward to retaining the title but with two new teams entering this years event it was looking a wide open contest. Gary Thorpe led the way for Got Baits Red winning his section with a massive 347lb which also gave him top spot.

Gary Thorpe’s decision to drop Trev Price to the bench, despite Trevor winning two recent opens and breaking the match records on both matches proved to be a stroke of genius as Got Baits red stormed home dropping just one point and showed what a shrewd captain he is.
