Alders farm Easter Festival 2013
Despite the coldest Easter for years anglers braved the conditions to fish this year’s three day festival.
With anglers travelling from all over the country with snow and ice a problem and 12 very late cancellations a decision was needed on whether the event should even go ahead, after consulting the lads who had the longest journeys it was decided to go ahead and fish the event.
On the morning of the event Alders was blessed with temperatures as low as minus 6 and of course frozen lakes, this didn’t stop the organisers they immediately got to work to clear the ice and after two hours of hard work game on.
Day one
N Cotterell 74lb
Colin Fossdyke 58lb 14 oz.
Glen Butler 57lb
Day two again saw a minus 6 and again the team worked so hard to get the match on with lots of advice from those watching on.
Day Two
N Darke 60lb 7oz
S Spinks 56lb 12oz
K Ashby 43lb 13oz
Day Three and like the previous two days we were met with yet another minus 6 and two very frozen lakes, the decision was made by some anglers that they the anglers should break their own swims (and not the organisers) whilst popular with themselves, but not with the majority of those taking part, which resulted in some deciding not to fish and going home after they drew what they perceived as no hopers, which does not help the festival as an event.
Day Three
Simon Spinks 40lb 9oz
Terry Lancaster 39lb 13oz
N Darke 37lb
As a festival the weather conditions made it a level playing field and the draw became very important something that as an organiser you love as it brings in exciting elements.
Nick Darke (Got Baits) came out on top with a very creditable 19 points ahead of Simon Spinks 18 points his first visit to the venue.
N Cottrell (Cottee) came in third with 17 points again a first time visitor.
Mr Mad the ever green old man of the sport showed his England veteran credentials by coming in Fourth on a weight count back also on 17 points.
N Darke Got Baits 19 points 132lb 7oz £300
Simon Spinks Maver Westwood 18 Points 132lb 8oz £220
N Cottrell Swan Elite 17 Points 107lb 1oz £180
Mr Mad Got Baits 17 Points 93lb 15oz £140
M Dickens Chiltern Match Group 17 Points 81lb 15oz £100
Next year’s event will be staged over two days Easter Sunday/Easter Monday and with people already booking and Easter two weeks later a sell-out is on the cardsFingers crossed we won’t see these kinds of conditions again.

With bites at a premium in the early part of the match it looked like a two horse race between Warren Downie and Mal Talbot who had both landed early big Carp.

Gary Thorpe drew peg 28 and went to his peg knowing it was the inform peg having won the last to matches.
Starting off at 6m Gary caught steady from the off and was soon in a commanding lead from the rest of the field.
Trevor Price on peg 30 was determined not to let Gary have it all his own way and put in 2 pints of maggots and two bags of micro from the off ( that’s someone who is confident he has it right) after two hours with Gary on 30 fish and Trev on 8 it looked like the tactic had backfired.
Then the peg came to life Trev catching 10 fish in as many minuets the battle was on between these two venue regulars, with Gary admitting Trev was catching 8 to his 1 it looked like the venue record holder was going to put this years biggest weight to date on the scales.
Then disaster struck an act of god stopped Trev catching ( more like sabotage:)) and Gary seized the chance to forge ahead.
Terry Lancaster was leading the field with 179lb until the scales arrived with Gary who promptly stormed into the lead with 240lb the talk was could Trev take second spot he was admitting to 211 lb 80z and with Trev being very accurate with his estimations
it looked like being the old one two for the got bait pair when his fished were weighed Trev had 212lb
So Gary took the honours and another win under his belt going into his fisho round next week

Tuersday 17th Affordable Open The first of the new regular Tuesday matches saw a very good turnout who were looking forward to some elastic stretching action. The anglers were met with heavy rain and near gale force winds, which would normally keep even the most dedicated of match man in his bed. Sunday saw the second open on Oaks lake with a full house everyone was wondering with the still hot conditions would the bream feed.
Gary Thorpe found himself on a shoal and took the honours with 73lb followed home by Barry Mason with 58lb
and the final place went to Derek (2m) smith on the next peg with 44lb.
An honest over view the lake fished very well overall apart from the Dam wall which once again fished hard for those on it.
With more platforms going in very soon this will turn out to be a very popular lake.

The open match again attracted a sell out attendance, match organiser Trev Price decided to use both lakes which was a popular choice with the anglers.
With Ash lake being the most likely to produce the leading weights it was decided to run overall pools for each lake again the choice of everyone in attendance.
Pines Lake
When Trev Price drew the dreaded Dam wall everyone was relived that peg had gone from the draw bag to say its unpopular is an understatement.
Knowing how it had been approached in the past Trev decided a bold attack was the order of the day putting in two bags of fishery micro from the off down both edges that was the plan of attack, and lucky for Trev it paid off with him winning the lake off of a peg that rarely wins a section.
Ash Lake
Simon Edwards back fishing with Got Baits after a lay off looking after his new baby used the same tactics but this time used 3G and won the lake easily from the rest of the field, catching most of his fish at 2m down the edge.
Considering the weather the venue fished amazing.

With yet another sell out and more on the waiting list the match organiser was under pressure to put in pegs that some anglers had even given up on before they drew them.
Their fears were unfounded as carp showed all around the lake showing that the fishery is one of the fairest around, the top rod was once again the inform Barry Mason ( Ringer Baits) who led the way from peg 28 fishing the straight lead and bread for the best weight of the year so far a fantastic 203lb 12oz
Runner up Dr Josh Blavins ( Got Baits) with another brilliant weight 128lb 7oz who fished Atomic maggot in a feeder.
Filling the final placing is the ever green Mal Talbot 111lb 11oz ( Got Baits) Mal has returned to fishing after an illustrious career at the highest level of fishing and within the media both tv and writing.
